Laser-Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) eye surgery is a surgical procedure performed on the eye.
Its principle consists in cutting a thin slice from the thickness of the cornea (which is the transparent part of the surface of the eye) in order to allow a deep reshaping of the corneal curvature by laser.
Its main purpose is to correct myopia, but also hyperopia, astigmatism or presbyopia (this is called "presby-lasik" by modifying the shape of the cornea). This operation makes it possible to dispense with a correction system (glasses or contact lenses).
The cornea is the transparent membrane at the front of the eye: with the lens, it redirects light behind the eye to the retina.
In case of vision problems, redesigning the cornea with a laser allows the light beam to be redirected so that the image is clearly formed on the retina.
This intervention has been extremely successful: nearly 22 million people have used it.

Wearing contact lenses must be interrupted a few days before the operation, during which time antibiotic eye drops are prescribed.
If anxiety is severe, a mild anxiolytic may be taken one hour before surgery.
The doctor will carry out a corneal topography, this examination makes it possible to collect information relating to the curvature or relief of the cornea.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The eye is instilled with anesthetic eye drops one to two minutes before the operation. The cornea is thus totally insensitive. No injection is necessary.
The surgeon first cuts a thin corneal flap, either with a femtosecond laser in the 100% laser Lasik or with a microkeratome in the standard Lasik. However, this lamella remains attached by a small lateral or upper hinge. It can thus be lifted, hence its name "corneal cover". By lifting this cover you can access the deep layers of the cornea, called corneal stroma.
The Excimer laser can then do its job of photoablation and tissue thickness reduction in the center of the cornea depending on the degree of myopia to be treated.
The surgeon finally folds down the corneal cover and repositions it without suture on the treated area. The latter thus adopts the new shape of the cornea and quickly adheres to the deep planes thanks to a healing phenomenon.
**The procedure can take from 30 to 45 minutes. **
After the operation:
Tinglin
Sensation of dust in the ey
Risks:
• Infection.
98% of cases: elimination of glasses with a single treatment
95% of cases: no more additional corrections
2.5% of cases: additional laser treatment may be required
