It is a technique used for decades, artificial insemination is the simplest, least invasive and least expensive technique of medically assisted reproduction (AMP). Every year, it allows the birth of thousands of babies.
Intrauterine insemination, also called artificial insemination, consists of introducing previously prepared sperm into the uterus on the day of ovulation. There are several types of artificial insemination: artificial insemination with sperm of the spouse (IAC) and artificial insemination with sperm donation (IAD).
This technique is proposed in the following cases:
• Male infertility
• Ejaculation disorders
• A viral risk (HIV)
• Ovulation disorders
• Unexplained infertility
• Moderate endometriosis
• An anomaly in the cervix
**In the woman, artificial insemination requires: **
• Normal levels of the hormones FSH, estradiol and AMH
• A sufficient number of anterior follicles (between 5 and 9 mm in size)
• One or two permeable tubes.
• In men: at least 500,000 to 1 million mobile and normal sperm.
Artificial insemination with sperm donation is proposed in the event of male sterility or hereditary disease in the spouse.

Ovarian stimulation is frequent. Oral or injectable administration of hormones results in good follicular development and ovulation, often with two or even three follicles compared to only one for a normal cycle, thus increasing the chances of fertilization.
Ovulation induction: When ultrasound shows one to two mature follicles, an endometrium of satisfactory thickness and an adequate estradiol level, ovulation is triggered with a hormone injection.
Then the collection and preparation of the sperm: the spouse's sperm is collected after an abstinence of 2 to 3 days minimum. It is then prepared in the laboratory to separate the sperm from the seminal fluid and retain only the most mobile normal sperm. The best pregnancy rates are obtained when the number of inseminated progressive mobile sperm cells (NSMI) is between 1 and 10 million.
Insemination: 36 hours after ovulation is triggered, the actual insemination takes place using a thin catheter, the doctor places the sperm inside the uterus (intrauterine insemination), more rarely at the cervix (intra-cervical insemination). This procedure requires no anesthesia or hospitalization.
Insemination is generally a simple procedure, which does not cause any discomfort and does not require any anaesthesia.
Once all the sperm have been deposited and for the woman's comfort, she is advised to lie down for 20 to 30 minutes. The patient can then return to the hotel.
