A fertility check-up includes a gynaecological examination for anatomical abnormalities or infection, temperature curves to determine whether ovulation occurs and when it occurs, and a blood test including blood tests for hormones involved in the different stages of reproduction. A Huhner test allows the analysis of the quality of cervical mucus after sexual intercourse and verifies the quality of the cervix and its compatibility with spermatozoa.
Pelvic ultrasound and hysterosalpingography are often prescribed in addition to this in order to look for possible abnormalities of the ovaries, fallopian tubes or uterus. In men, the fertility check-up includes a spermogram to study the quality of the sperm and in particular its number, shape and mobility.
